Amos is a book filled with fierce words of warning about God’s coming judgment against the nations. The book opens with a series of judgments against the surrounding nations. In every case, to the Syrians, Edomites, Ammonites, Moabites, the people of Tyre, and even to the kingdom of Judah God said that he would send fire to destroy. For example, to Judah, “I will send fire upon Judah and burn down the fortresses of Jerusalem” (Amos 2:5).
In this Bible study we considered what actually happened to the nations that God said he would destroy with fire. We then contrasted the theme of judgment as described in Amos with judgment as described in the gospel of John.
